The Coast Guard Auxiliary, the civilian and volunteer component of the U.S. Coast Guard, is calling for volunteers who have a few spare hours each month. Owning a boat is not necessary in order to join the auxiliary.
The organization’s purpose is to assist the U.S. Coast Guard in the promotion of boating safety and when called upon to support their efforts in search and rescue missions. Other functions include assisting with safety and security patrols, mass casualty or disasters, pollution response and patrols, homeland security and commercial fishing and vessel exams. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is also a social organization that places a high emphasis on fellowship and get togethers.
